Lifepilot Closure
Why is Lifepilot closing?
After 15 years of supporting several million young people to explore their strengths, their options and their future study and work, we have made the difficult decision to close Lifepilot in December 2026.
Despite exploring a range of funding options to develop the site to continue to meet the needs and priorities of adults and those work with them, the combination of the funding environment and the pace of technology change means we are no longer in a position to take the platform sustainably into the future.
Careerpilot is also closing on the same timeline. A separate set of FAQs is available for Careerpilot users here.
When is the site closing?
To give every user adequate time to retrieve their information and plan ahead, the closure will run in stages:
Autumn Term 1 (up to 23 October 2026): Lifepilot operates as normal. Adults can register or log in and use all career tools.
23 October 2026: This is the last full day to register for an account on Lifepilot.
Autumn Term 2 (up to 18 December 2026): No new account registrations. Only existing Lifepilot account holders can log in to use Career Tools. Resources that require user registration will no longer be available.
18 December 2026: The Lifepilot website will be taken down.
Can I still access my reports from my Career Tools?
Until 23rd October 2026 you can register and log in to your Lifepilot account to download your reports from the site in the usual way. From November 2026, only those with an existing account will be able to log in and download reports until site closure on 18 December 2026. If you need any help, please contact us at lifepilot@bath.ac.uk.
What is the final date for downloading data from the site?
The final deadline to download data will be 17 December 2026. On 18 December 2026 the site will be taken down completely.
How do I download my information?
Log in to your account and visit your profile or dashboard area. Any reports, action plans or saved entries can be downloaded from there in the usual way. If you need any help, please contact us at lifepilot@bath.ac.uk.
Is there a replacement platform?
No successor platform is planned at this time. We are exploring options to transfer some of the most valuable Lifepilot resources to the University of Bath website so that they remain available beyond closure. We will confirm what will be available, and where to find it, in a future update.
What other sites can help me with future careers and life planning?

For organisations and practitioners using Lifepilot
What about links to Lifepilot in our own systems and materials?
If you have embedded Lifepilot links in your website, training materials, client-facing resources or referral processes, please plan to update or remove these by 18 December 2026, after which the site will no longer be accessible.
How can I support the people I work with through the closure?
Make users aware of the 17th December 2026 deadline to download anything they want to keep.
Where appropriate, help them log in and save their reports and action plans before that date.
Signpost them to alternative careers and life-planning resources (see the list above).
Can we share these FAQs with our users?
Yes, we would encourage you to share the FAQs with your users.
About data and privacy
What happens to the account data and personal information when the site closes?
Users with a login are encouraged to download all data and reports by 31st October. All user data will then be securely deleted as part of the full site closure on 18 December, with full deletion completed by January 2027.
How will data be deleted?
User data will be securely deleted from the live Lifepilot system as part of the site takedown, with deletion of all remaining data and backups completed by January 2027. No personal data will be retained by the University of Bath after this date.
Will any data be kept after closure?
We may retain anonymised, aggregated usage statistics (for example, numbers of users by year or region) for our own reporting purposes. No personally identifiable information will be retained.
