Preparing to study checklist
- Study a short course first to help you prepare for your course of choice e.g. IT skills, Essay Writing & Access courses. Many students find this very helpful, especially if they have not studied for some time.
- Find out as much as possible about your chosen course –
- Obtain the college/university prospectus/course information sheets
- Visit the college/university
- Talk to the course tutor/adviser
- Check out any specific courses you need to undertake for your choice of course/career e.g. some careers may specify you need English or Maths.
- Think about how you are going to manage your time whilst studying e.g. How will study fit around your job, your family?
- Discuss your plans with your family, friends, employer
- Find out what financial support is available to you
