Can higher level study be combined with working?
Work-related courses, for example a Foundation Degree, Higher National Certificate or Diploma (HNC and HND) or NVQ4, enable students to combine work and study. The workplace can help provide the evidence of learning and be the setting for project work. Many courses now have a flexible delivery, for example in the evening, weekends, day release or online.
Do apprentices have the skills to cope with higher level study?
Apprentices already have the technical knowledge and practical experience in their field. Apprentices have developed skills in time management, working with others and producing portfolio evidence. Like any new student they will need to familiarise themselves with the jargon, learn how to write reflective accounts and how to reference evidence. What is the application process for a higher level programme?
Individuals wishing to study a part time courses run at a college or university can usually apply for direct to the institution. Individuals wishing to apply for a full-time Higher Education course will need to apply through the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS).
